TNU achieves great success at the World Chinese Language Conference

The 2024 World Chinese Language Conference wrapped up in Beijing on Nov 17. Tianjin Normal University (TNU) yielded fruitful results with its outstanding contribution to the international Chinese language education during the three-day event.

TNU's Confucius Institute foreign partners honored with the "Brilliance of CI" award

The event, "Brilliance of CI – a special appreciation event for the 20th anniversary of the founding of Confucius Institutes", which ran alongside the World Chinese Language Conference, awarded 41 foreign dignitaries, sinologists, university presidents and Confucius Institute directors from 34 countries.

Two of TNU’s Confucius Institute foreign partners – George Albert Omore Magoha, former cabinet secretary for education in Kenya, former vice-chancellor of the University of Nairobi, and a member of the council of the former Confucius Institute Headquarters; and Somdet Phra Maharatchamongkhonlamuni, the board chair of the Maritime Silk Road Confucius Institute in Thailand – received such honors.

The Confucius Institute at University of Nairobi, co-hosted by TNU, is the first Confucius Institute in Africa, acting as a milestone in Sino-African educational cooperation and exchange. Professor Magoha was the board chair of the Confucius Institute since its establishment. He has promoted the integration of the Chinese language into Kenya’s national education system, making significant contributions to the educational and cultural exchanges between China and Africa.

Somdet Phra Maharatchamongkhonlamuni has long been dedicated to promoting the popularization and development of Chinese education in Thailand. Co-hosted by TNU, he established the Maritime Silk Road Confucius Institute, which is the first Confucius Institute named after the “Silk Road” .


TNU signs cooperation agreement with the Center for Language Education and Cooperation and Ho Chi Minh City University of Education.

TNU reaches cooperation with foreign universities on Chinese language education

During the conference, TNU, in collaboration with the Center for Language Education and Cooperation under China's Ministry of Education and Ho Chi Minh City University of Education in Vietnam, has jointly signed a tripartite agreement on the joint training of students majoring in International Chinese Education. With this agreement, TNU will jointly establish with its partners the Chinese language education training programs in Vietnam, meeting the local demand for Chinese language teachers.

In addition, the Chinese Learning and Testing Center at Navamindradhiraj University in Thailand co-built with TNU has officially inaugurated. The center will provide services including international Chinese language teaching, Chinese proficiency exams, international Chinese teacher training, teacher qualification certification, and Sino-Thai two-way study abroad program.

TNU receives multiple awards in Chinese language education sector

During the World Chinese Language Conference this year, TNU received the Best Partner of HSK Study in China award. As one of the honorary distinctions of the HSK, this award is an important recognition of the TNU's long-standing commitment to enhancing exchanges and cooperation with countries around the world in various fields such as humanities and education. It acknowledges TNU's efforts to provide a higher quality Chinese learning experience and Chinese testing services.

Meanwhile, TNU has been recognized as 2024 Outstanding CTC Test Center. Chen Chen, a lecturer from the International Chinese Education Development Research Institute of TNU, has been appointed as one of the first-batch experts in the Confucius Institute Expert Database.

Yu Hongshan, a lecturer from TNU, has been awarded the honorary title of "ChinesePlus Smart Education Gold Medal Teachers".

This year marks the 60th anniversary of TNU's engagement in international Chinese education. Over the past 60 years, the university has been dedicated to building a "first-class international Chinese education base", continuously achieving new results in areas such as professional team development, Chinese language textbook compilation, think tank advisory services, and organizing major events.

This conference has well presented the university's accomplishments in international Chinese education to the world, as well as providing more opportunities for the university to further strengthen its international cooperation in Chinese education with foreign partners.
