During the winter vacation, the School of Life Sciences at Tianjin Normal University (TNU) held the Biology Popular Science Camp. Students from multiple primary and secondary schools in Tianjin had a close encounter with biological science under the guidance of TNU's student volunteers.

The winter camp's curriculum covered various aspects, including molecular cloning experiments, microbial culture, and microscopic observation of microorganisms.
Under the guidance of the TNU student volunteers, the children actively participated in experimental operations, enhancing their hands-on and observational abilities through practice, while also developing a strong interest in biological science.
"Observing microorganisms, exploring the living habits of birds, and cultivating microbial communities by myself... Through participating in the winter camp activities, the biological knowledge I learned from textbooks became vivid and specific," said Zhang Chengyou, a seventh-grade student of Tianjin Fenglin Road Middle School. "Through the camp, I have gained a lot of biological science knowledge, and I hope to have the opportunity to participate in similar popular science activities during future vacations."
"I prepared for a long time before the winter camp started to enrich my knowledge reserves as much as possible, in order to better explain things to the children," said Meng Fanyi, a volunteer from TNU. "I hope to participate in more activities of this kind in the future, continue to hone myself in popular science practice, and constantly improve my teaching ability."
Professor Yan Chuncai from the School of Life Sciences at TNU, the person in charge of this event, stated that this winter camp not only provides an opportunity for primary and secondary school students to learn about biology, but also offers a platform for TNU’s students to step onto the podium and serve the community while improving their abilities.
Going forward, more biology popular science activities are expected to be conducted at TNU.
