The School of Software, established in 2005, is one of the first exemplary software schools in Tianjin. It has a teaching staff with solid theoretical foundations and rich practical experience, all of whom have doctoral or master's degrees. The school has also invited Professor He Jifeng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and dean of the School of Computer Science and Software Engineering at East China Normal University, to serve as a part-time professor. Software engineers from various companies are also employed to teach courses. The school follows the concept of “market-oriented, open-minded, internationalized, engineering-focused, emphasizing practical and language skills” to cultivate practical and versatile software engineering professionals and software engineering management personnel who understand technology, foreign languages, and management. In recent years, its undergraduate students’ employment rate has consistently been among the highest in TNU.

The software engineering program uses a "2+1+1" training model, consisting of two years of foundational education, followed by a year of industry engineer-taught courses and a year of engineering practice and thesis work. The program focuses on cultivating abilities and relies on a practical teaching system, promoting high-level, practical, and composite engineering quality education. It actively participates in the reform of software talent cultivation models and provides excellent learning and practical conditions for students to systematically learn software engineering knowledge, participate in software development, maintenance, and management. Its main innovative features include:

(1) A diverse faculty. Some courses or practical aspects are guided by experienced professors, experts and software engineers from software engineering fields.

(2) An open training environment. Multiple internship bases at software companies have been established, using order-based training. Students can get exercise in real working environments.

(3) Multi-level and gradual practices. There are abundant engineering practice opportunities.

(4) Teaching in foreign languages such as English and Japanese.

(5) Complete occupational quality guidance. It has a team of full-time counsellors and academic class tutors, providing all-round guidance and support for students' learning, scientific research, and life development.

(6) Broad employment prospects. During the study period, students can also take the teacher qualification certificate examination. The main technical directions of the software engineering major include Java Development, Big Data, Web Front-end Engineer, Network Security, Web Application, and Artificial Intelligence Direction. The school implements a credit system. Its outstanding graduates can be recommended to pursue a master's degree.
