School of Sports Science

The School of Sports Science was founded in 2001 and offers master's degree programs in sports science, as well as undergraduate majors in physical education and public sports. They focus on teaching, training, scientific research, and social services related to sports. Over the years, TJNU’s work has been recognized with such honors as "National Civilized Unit" and the "President Cup" of the National University Games.

The school has a strong faculty of 60 full-time teachers, including 20 with senior professional titles, and over 70% hold PhD or master's degrees. Among them are six international or national level referees, one international bridge master, one recipient of the Chinese Sports Honorary Medal and Whistle Award, two national outstanding coaches, and three experts in the "Discipline Navigator Teacher Training Program". Additionally, eight first prizes have been won in the "Tianjin Youth Sports Teacher Basic Skills Competition", and 21 teachers have been awarded the title of "Advanced Teacher in Sun Sports Education." The faculty's academic research is also impressive, with individuals having received major research grants and published nearly a hundred articles in core journals.

The school offers many quality courses, including one national first-class undergraduate course, one Tianjin first-class undergraduate course, one Tianjin excellent course, twelve campus-level quality courses, three campus-level excellent courses, and nine campus-level outstanding courses. Hundreds of teachers and students have won awards in various sports teaching and competitions at international and domestic levels. Furthermore, the academy has trained and provided more than ten Olympic athletes for the country, including Wang Zhen and Cai Zelin.

The school’s graduate education started in 2006, and it now has a master's degree in Physical Education, a master's degree in Sports, and two second-level disciplines under the first-level discipline of Physical Education, including Sports Humanities and Social Sciences, and Sports Education and Training. The master's degree in Sports includes two fields, Sports Teaching and Sports Training. In recent years, the quality of graduate education has steadily improved, and in 2021, it ranked 34th in the "Best Subjects in China" by the Academic Ranking of World Universities, ranking in the top 30% of sports disciplines in China. Its graduate students have also published numerous academic papers and received awards.
