The College of Fine Arts & Design was established in 2007, and offers programs in Art and Design, Fine Arts and Calligraphy, and Design. The college provides eight undergraduate majors: Fine Arts, Painting, Chinese Painting, Costume and Fashion Design, Performance (Costume Performance and Image Design Direction), Visual Communication Design, Environmental Design, and Digital Media Art. Among them, Costume and Fashion Design and Fine Arts are recognized as "Tianjin Municipal First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Sites". Additionally, the Fine Arts (Teacher Education) program has been rated at the national level.
The college has 102 faculty members, including 14 professors and 16 associate professors. There are 36 supervisors for graduate students. One faculty member has been awarded the title of "Teaching Master of Tianjin Higher Education Institutions", and several others have won prizes in the national basic skills competition for art teachers. The teaching team for Fine Arts and Design Practice has been approved as a "Tianjin Municipal Teaching Team". The course "History of Chinese and Western Clothing" is one of the first "National Excellent Open Courses" and a national first-class undergraduate course. The course "Watercolor Portraits" is a Tianjin Municipal Excellent Course, and four graduate courses, including "Design History and Theory", were selected as online demonstration courses for national Master of Fine Arts (MFA) programs. The teaching team of the school’s Department of Fashion Art was awarded the title of "Tianjin Municipal Advanced Collective of Women's Day".
The college has an Art and Design Teaching Experimental Center equipped with complete facilities. The center has over 30 experimental and training rooms for various practical teachings, such as manual production, photography, and digital design. It has been recognized as a Tianjin municipal-level experimental teaching demonstration center.
The college has five research institutions under the university's management, including the Tianjin Normal University Center for Arts Education Research, the China Graphic Logo Research Center, the Chinese Painting Art Research Institute, the Art Appraisal and Certification Research Institute, and the Modern Ceramic Art Research Institute. The college's research capabilities have steadily improved, and it has been granted over 50 research projects, including the National Art Planning Fund, the National Art Fund, the Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education, and Tianjin Art Planning. Several teachers' paintings have been selected for national art exhibitions and awards.
The college has made great efforts to promote international cooperation and has established partnerships with universities both domestically and abroad. These partnerships are with institutions from Japan, Germany, France, Italy, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, New Zealand, and Canada, and serve as platforms for academic and student exchanges.
