The School of Economics is a teaching and research-oriented institution. The school currently offers three undergraduate programs: International Economics and Trade, Economics, and Investment. Among them, the International Economics and Trade program was selected as a Tianjin Municipal-level Applied Undergraduate Program in 2017, and was selected as a National-level First-class Undergraduate Program in 2020. The Investment program was selected as a Tianjin Municipal-level First-class Undergraduate Program in 2021.

The school grants master's degrees in two first-level disciplines: Theoretical Economics and Applied Economics, as well as a professional master's degree in Finance. Theoretical Economics is a key discipline in Tianjin, with four second-level disciplines: Political Economy, Western Economics, World Economics, and Population, Resources and Environmental Economics.

The school attaches great importance to cultivating students' comprehensive quality and innovation ability. Since 2017, its students have won 1 gold medal in the Youth Red Dream Path of the China International "Internet+" College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition; 5 bronze medals in the main track; 6 gold medals, 4 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals in the Tianjin Competition; second prize in the 6th National University Students' Art Exhibition, and one student was named China's University Students' Self-improvement Star.

Over the years, its students have also achieved remarkable results in subject competitions, including the "Challenge Cup" and "Innovation and Entrepreneurship for Youth" College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competitions, the National University Student Mathematical Modeling Competition, the National Higher Education Institutions Foreign Trade Single Certificate Competition, and the National Finance and Securities Investment Simulation Training Competition.

Since 2017, students from the school have won numerous achievements in various competitions, including in the National University Students' Art Exhibition, the "Challenge Cup" and "Innovation and Entrepreneurship for Youth" College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competitions, the National University Student Mathematical Modeling Competition, and the National Finance and Securities Investment Simulation Training Competition. Currently, the school has 1,466 full-time undergraduate students, 132 graduate students, and seven international students across its undergraduate and graduate levels.

The school currently has 59 faculty members, including 41 full-time teachers (14 professors and 12 associate professors) and 26 master's supervisors. Among the faculty, 36 hold doctoral degrees, accounting for 87.8 percent of the total.

The school has several research institutes, such as the Economic Development Institute; the Regional Development Strategy and Reform Research Institute; the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Emerging Industries Synergistic Development Center; the Tianjin Normal University Regional Development Strategy and Reform Research Institute, which is a CTTI Source Think Tank; and the Tianjin Normal University Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Emerging Industries Development Research Center.

The school boasts modern professional teaching equipment and comprehensive laboratories, teaching and research software, as well as audio and video resources.
