There are currently 1,793 students, including 1,543 undergraduates, 180 master's students, 55 doctoral students, and 15 overseas students.

The school has two undergraduate majors in Chinese Language and Literature and Chinese International Education, both of which are considered National First-Class programs. They have established several high-quality courses, including one national first-class course, one national excellent course, and many university-level quality courses. By improving the quality of undergraduate education through curriculum construction, promoting the integration of the first and second classrooms, and implementing characteristic social services, the school has achieved distinctive features. Through the center for learning Chinese traditional culture, students learn about Chinese culture and promote traditional culture.

In the past three years, the faculty of the school was granted nearly 100 scientific research projects at all levels, including national social science fund major/key projects, "Rare and Excellent Skills" special project, and others. They have published nearly 40 academic monographs and textbooks, and over 240 academic papers in various journals and received five research awards at or above the provincial and ministerial levels.

The school has research institutions such as the Institute of Cross-Cultural and World Literature, the Center for Oriental Literature and Oriental Culture Studies, and the International Chinese Literature Research Center. It also houses several academic societies and associations. Additionally, it houses facilities such as a journal reading room, a speech laboratory, and a multimedia academic lecture hall. The Tianjin Normal University Characteristic Information Room has nearly 44,000 Chinese books (including more than 6,000 ancient books) and over 5,000 sets of multimedia electronic resources.
