The School of Music and Film was founded in August 2007, merging the former School of Fine Arts and School of Film and Television Arts. It is a comprehensive university that balances professionalism and practicality, with five undergraduate majors: Musicology, Music Performance, Dance, Performance, and Drama and Film Literature. The school also offers academic master's degrees in Music, Film, Drama, Musicology, Film Studies, and Dance Studies, as well as a professional master’s degree in Art (Music, Film and Drama). There is also a joint undergraduate program in Musicology with the Moscow State Institute of Culture.

The college boasts a structured, professional, and highly responsible faculty team. Currently, there are a total of 103 full-time teachers, including 33 teachers with the title of associate professor or above, 14 Ph.D. degree holders, and eight foreign teachers. The number of students is now over 1,900. The school's teaching facilities are well-equipped, featuring multimedia classrooms, piano rooms, dance classrooms, performance classrooms, digital piano classrooms, MIDI music classrooms and laboratories, recording studios, professional editing rooms, small cinemas, multifunctional halls for small-stage performances, and the largest and best-equipped music hall among the universities in Tianjin.

The school focuses on practical teaching and artistic practice, giving students great opportunities to gain stage experience and showcase their talents through concerts and performance events. Student-led clubs and activities also contribute to teaching practice. Teachers and students have won numerous awards in national competitions and international events. The school values academic exchange and creates a relaxed learning atmosphere that incorporates Chinese and Western traditions. Teachers and students have pursued opportunities abroad in countries like Poland, Russia, Germany, Italy, the United States, and South Korea.

A dynamic faculty, a conducive learning environment, a focus on practical teaching principles, and a vibrant scholarly atmosphere have laid a solid foundation for the development of the school. The institution has established a development strategy of striving for first-class teaching quality and talent level in the country. Through continuous refinement of professional disciplines and high-quality talent cultivation, the school has earned great social acclaim.
