The School of Education consists of five departments: Education, Educational Technology, Preschool Education, Teacher Education, and Elementary Education. It also includes a mobile post-doctoral research station in Education, the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Teacher Education, Tianjin Normal University Xiangyu Basic Education Practice Research Institute, Journal of Mathematics Education, Tianjin Basic Education Decision Service Research Center, Laboratory for the Development of Intelligence Diagnosis in Primary and Secondary Education, Institute of Elementary Education, Curriculum and Teaching Research Center, Modern Educational Technology Research Center, and Basic Education Collaborative Innovation Center.

It has 207 staff members, among which 151 are full-time teachers (including 25 professors). Currently, there are 2,090 undergraduate students, 963 master students, 118 doctoral students, two exchange students, 45 preparatory students of smaller ethnic groups, and 322 graduate students majoring in educational administration from South Korea’s Sehan University.

The school has a doctoral degree program, a professional doctoral degree program, and a postdoctoral research station in Education. Additionally, it has nine second-level master's degree programs and one professional master's degree program in this major.

The school has won approval for 14 National Social Science Fund projects, and one of the National Natural Science Fund. It has won the second prize and a youth achievement award in the 8th Outstanding Achievement Award in Scientific Research of Higher Education Institutions (Humanities and Social Sciences), as well as the third prize in the 5th National Education Science Research Outstanding Achievement Award.

Many of the school think tank’s proposals have been adopted by the government. And its reports like Tianjin Basic Education Development Report (Blue Book), Tianjin Primary School Students Comprehensive Quality Record Handbook, and Tianjin Primary and Secondary School Title Standards have been widely promoted and applied throughout the city. The Tianjin Basic Education Decision-Making and Strategic Research Center of the school was selected as a source of the Chinese think tank index CTTI, and its Journal of Mathematics Education was selected as an A-level core academic one in the AMI Comprehensive Journal Evaluation of Chinese Humanities and Social Sciences Periodicals.
